In week three, patients identify marketable skills and characteristics sought by employers to prepare for re-entry into the labor market. Adaptive and transferable work skills are reviewed. The 10 most marketable skills sought by employers are listed with techniques to incorporate those skills into an interview situation. Patients complete a behavioral inventory regarding personality styles in the work place and how to relate to co-workers. Discuss alternative resources available in the community such as Social Security Administration, Employment Security and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
In week four, paitients review resume writing, cover letter preparation and thank you letter responses. Several resume foremats and styles are presented and patients dicuss the benefits of functional resumes vs. chronological resume. Patients are taught appropriate responses to interview questions. We utilize true/false tests related to job seeking skills, resume writing and interview techniques as a discussion mechanism. Employment discrimniation is reviewed in terms of Washinton Cilvil Rights Law and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
