In week one, patients wil receive an overview of the Washington State Worker’s Compensation System. Topics covered include: how a claim is processed from accident to closing and the role of the claims manager; three steps needed to close a claim; Permanent Partial Disability awards (PPD) and rating exams; Return to Work Priorities; Ability To Work Assessment and the role of the Vocational Rehabilitation Couselor; job modification; light duty employment (temporary vs.permanent); rights and responsibilities of all individuals involved in the claim process.
In week two, patients will identify their vocational interest and learn how to explore vocationl options. The Career Ocupational Preference System (COPS) interest test is administered, scored and interpreted during the vocational group. Instruction is provided in how jobs are classified based on the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, Classification of Jobs and Guide to Occupational Exploration. Vocational resources are provided to aid in vocational exploration activities. Resouces include The Washington Occupational Information Systems Handbook and the Washington Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board Handbook for vocational exploration activities entitled Where Are You Going?
