Clients are administered a perceived ability assessment called the Spinal Function Sort that places their perceived ability into a standardized category of work, e.g.: Sedentary, Light, Medium, Heavy and Very Heavy. The client's perceived ability is compared with their measured functional capacity.
Comparison of functional capacity between day one and day two testing as it correlates to the client's endurance and ability to sustain regular work on a reasonable continuous basis.
Our physical therapist performs a complete file review and physical examination to correlate physical impairment as it relates to measured functional capacity.
WHAT MAKES A FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATION VALID ?
Pain and function are not the same. The WorkWell System (formerly Isernhagen) uses a kinesiophysical approach to assessing function. This method
relies on the therapist's expertise to determine maximum function by observing
the prime movers (muscles), accessory muscles, body mechanics, speed, gait,
heart rate and other physical factors rather than by the patient's report
of pain, discomfort or observed pain behaviors. The therapist determines
when maximum effort has been reached and stops testing when the activity
becomes unsafe and dysfunctional.
